New DSP Review: MLB Power Pros (PS2)
Our review of MLB Power Pros by Konami is up. Here is an excerpt:
Hitting: Here is where MLB PP shines. The batting cursor works very well and is a blast to bat with. As someone who really enjoys cursor batting I jumped at the chance to give this a swing. The cursor does a wonderful job translating where contact is made and the timing of the swing into where the ball actually goes. Once the ball is hit the game’s physics are also very good, adding a gentle curve to the ball as it moves through the air. Players may not appreciate some of the interesting bounces the ball will occasionally make in the outfield but I think it adds a bit of danger to fielding making it more exciting. Trying to draw a walk is painfully difficult. I played through a game against Zambrano (in 2006 averaged 1 BB / 2.13 IP) and I couldn’t draw a single walk only swinging on obvious strikes. Tejada’s batting stance also presents a bit of a challenge as his bat comes slightly across in front of the pitcher making it hard to see the pitch coming towards the plate. Base running is fine once you get a handle on how to move the runners around the bases. Controlling individual runners can get a bit complicated if you are trying to pull of some daring maneuvers but with practice it becomes second nature.
