IGN has an article/interview titled “MLB 2K7 Postmortem” up. This game was released on February 27. The MLB season started on Monday. This game is already dead? It is already dated? Has everyone moved on? Is that the shelf life of sports videogames? The games come out during the preseason and are put to rest a few days into the regular season? Is it just the nature of sports games? The hype prior to release seems to be as exciting for some sports gamers as actually playing the game. I’m still playing NHL 07 and MLB 07. I did play NCAA 07 into the Bowl Season, but put Madden away pretty fast. It wasn’t due to lack of interest in football gaming. It was due to the game not being as engaging as its’ college football counterpart. I’m curious to see how long the average virtual seasons last for other gamers.
