Let Me Introduce Myself
I have been coming to DSP for quite a long time. I remember sitting in my apartment, taking a break from High Heat and reading the reviews on the site. For some reason, I clicked on the contact link and asked if they were looking for writers. I received a reply asking for some writing samples. I think I wrote something about Bobby Orr and sent in some of my college papers. I was an English major at UNC at the time. Frank Eva, the editor at the time gave me a shot. I got some of the reviews that nobody else wanted. Some skateboarding game with a monkey in it stands out. I did get to review a build of the Fox Sports hockey game. I really enjoyed that game. In fact I did a recap of a season I was playing each week for the site. I was even put on retainer after he swung a deal with UGO. It all came to an end when I wrote a scathing review of Rock the Rink. It was crap and I called it crap in my review. It didn’t get published and I was let go. Am I bitter? Of course I am. It was $150 a month and a steady stream of free games. But I am grateful. It taught me to write. I somehow parlayed that experience into a copywriting/editing gig at a marketing company. Like Scoop, I’ll be posting on a wide range of topics.
